Why a Honda PCX rental in Phuket feels different

The first thing people notice on a Honda PCX rental in Phuket is the seat. It is wide, soft and stepped, so an hour on the ring road to the airport or a lazy loop down to Promthep Cape leaves nobody sore. The Honda PCX 160 is our premium 160 cc scooter, and it is the one I ride myself when I have errands across the whole island.

The 156.93 cc eSP+ engine shares its bones with the Click 160, so Patong Hill, the Kata–Karon viewpoint road and the Big Buddha climb are all easy with a passenger. Honda adds front ABS and Selectable Torque Control, which calm the bike down on wet concrete and the sandy patches near beach car parks. The smart key stays in your pocket; you just turn the knob. The 8.1-litre tank at roughly 45 km per litre gives well over 300 km between fills, which is most of a week of beach-hopping.

Storage is the other reason to upgrade. The 30-litre U-box swallows a full-face helmet, a laptop bag or a supermarket run, so you are not riding with a backpack in the heat. At 131 kg it is heavier than a Click, but the 764 mm seat is actually lower, so shorter riders still get both feet down.

Who it suits, and who should choose something else

If you are staying a week or more, riding two-up most days, or simply value comfort, this is the bike. If you prefer a sportier, sharper feel with the same power, try the Yamaha NMAX 155. If you want ABS on a lighter, cheaper scooter and can live with less storage, the Honda Click 160 ABS is the sensible saving. For anyone planning a month or longer, our guide to long-term and monthly scooter rental in Phuket explains how the long-stay rates work; the PCX is our most requested monthly bike.

What's included

Two helmets, a phone holder and free delivery to any hotel, villa or the airport are included. The deposit is refundable on return. Thai law requires a Thai motorcycle licence or an International Driving Permit that covers motorcycles; our note on free scooter delivery to Phuket hotels explains what to have ready when we arrive. We open 10:00–19:00 every day and take cash, credit card and Alipay.

Best areas for the PCX 160

The PCX is our top pick for scooter rental at Phuket Airport, where the ride south is long and the boot swallows cabin luggage, and for Bang Tao and Laguna, where distances between the beach, Boat Avenue and the villas add up.

Frequently asked questions

PCX 160 or Click 160: which should I rent?

Comfort decides it. Both have the same 156.93 cc engine and climb the same hills, but the PCX has a wider, softer seat, a 30-litre boot, an 8.1-litre tank and a smart key. For a week or more, or for a lot of two-up riding, the PCX is the one guests thank us for.

Is the PCX 160 comfortable for two adults on a full-day ride?

Yes. The stepped seat gives the passenger a proper perch, the suspension handles two people well, and the big tank means a loop from Old Town to Promthep Cape, up the west coast and back needs no petrol stop.

Will a full-face helmet fit under the seat?

Yes, the 30-litre U-box takes a full-face helmet with room for a small bag beside it. It is the main reason people upgrade from a Click.

Can the PCX 160 do Patong Hill and the Big Buddha road two-up?

Easily. The engine has the same hill-climbing strength as the Click 160, and the ABS plus torque control keep the descents calm when the road is wet.

Which licence do I need for the PCX 160?

Thai law requires a Thai motorcycle licence or an International Driving Permit that covers motorcycles. Bring the physical document to the handover.
