Chalong is the crossroads of southern Phuket: the big roundabout at Chalong Circle, the pier where island boats leave, Wat Chalong on the road into town, and Soi Ta-iad, the lane of Muay Thai gyms and fitness cafés. It is also the closest beach-side area to our shop, so scooter rental Chalong delivery takes about 20 minutes and, like everywhere, is free.
Tell us where you are staying and we ride down Chao Fa Road. Good hand-over spots: the Chalong Pier car park, the Wat Chalong car park, the bottom of the Big Buddha road, or your gym's front gate on Soi Ta-iad (Tiger Muay Thai and its neighbours all know us). Have your passport and a Thai motorcycle licence or International Driving Permit ready; the licence is required by Thai law and checked at the police stops around Chalong Circle. Payment is by cash, credit card or Alipay, two helmets included.
Fighters and long-stay gym members usually want a bike for a month or more; monthly rates are on the price table, and a mid-term swap is no problem. If you were searching for scooter rental Soi Ta-iad specifically, this is the page.
Chalong Circle is the one place to concentrate. Five roads feed into it, trucks heading to the pier cut across lanes, and the traffic lights around it change the flow at busy hours. Enter slowly in the left lane and signal early. Chao Fa East and Chao Fa West, the twin roads north to Phuket Town, are fast and flat.
The Big Buddha road is a different ride. It leaves the main road about a kilometre north of the circle and climbs roughly 5.5 km up Nakkerd Hill, steep in places with tight curves and tour buses coming down. The statue is 45 m tall and faces Chalong Bay, so you can see it from most of the area. Take the hill in low speed, keep well away from the bus mirrors on the hairpins, and do not ride up in the rain. Soi Ta-iad is narrow, two-way and full of people walking between gyms; ride at walking pace.
Hotels and guesthouses near the pier road. Boats leave early, so we deliver the evening before if you are heading to the islands.
The roundabout zone and the shops along Chao Fa West. Most Chalong motorbike rental hand-overs here happen at a café by the circle.
The few resorts on the lower Nakkerd Hill road. Hand-over at the bottom of the hill road for easy access.
The Muay Thai lane. We deliver to the gym gate or your room block; most gym accommodation has a bike bay.
Rawai is ten minutes south on Route 4024. Phuket Old Town, where our shop is, is twenty minutes north on Chao Fa Road. Kata is west over the hill road from the circle.
The pier has a large car park where bikes can be left for a day trip. Wat Chalong has free parking for visitors. Soi Ta-iad is short on parking; use your gym's bay. Petrol stations are easy to find on Chao Fa West near the circle, so there is no excuse for an empty tank here.

Yes, to the gym gate or your room block. Soi Ta-iad is in Chalong and most gym accommodation has a bike bay. Monthly rentals are common here.

Yes. Thai law requires a Thai motorcycle licence or an International Driving Permit to ride a scooter in Phuket. What police check, how to get an IDP, and why riding without one is a bad deal.
