Kata is a one-and-a-half-kilometre beach about 17 km from Phuket Town, split into Kata Yai in the north and the quieter Kata Noi over a small headland to the south. Our scooter rental Kata delivery covers both bays plus Kata Centre, and it is free: we ride out from Old Town across Chalong and over the Kata hill, which takes about 40 minutes. Whether you call it Kata Beach scooter rental or motorbike rental Kata Phuket, the service is the same.

Getting a scooter rental Kata delivery

Meeting points that work well: the Kata Beach car park at the northern end of the beach, the Kata Noi Beach road in front of the hotels, Dino Park at the Kata–Karon boundary (everyone knows the dinosaur), or the Karon Viewpoint car park if you are staying on the hill road. Most people just give us the hotel name and we come to reception.

At hand-over we check your passport and your Thai motorcycle licence or International Driving Permit, take the deposit, and you pay by cash, credit card or Alipay. Helmets for two are included. The tank will have enough fuel to get you to the nearest station.

Riding around Kata

Kata rewards a bit of engine. Reaching Kata Noi means taking the narrow beach road up and over the hill from Kata Yai, a short but steep hump that tour vans take in first gear. The bigger climb is Route 4233 south towards Nai Harn: it passes the Karon Viewpoint, locally Khao Sam Haad, at about 190 m above sea level, with hairpins on both sides. Go down slowly and brake before the bends, not in them; the road stays wet and slippery for weeks in the rainy season. North of Kata the road to Karon is flat and busy with pedestrians, and the strip through Kata Centre is a slow crawl at dinner time.

If this is your first time on a scooter, do a few laps of the flat beach road before attempting the viewpoint climb. Police checks appear on the Chalong road into Kata from time to time; carry your licence.

Best scooter for Kata

  • Honda Click 160: our cheapest 160, and the extra power over a 125 matters on the Kata Noi hump with two people.
  • Honda PCX 160: ABS, which we like on the viewpoint descent, and the most comfortable seat for a passenger.
  • Honda ADV 160: longer suspension that soaks up the broken tarmac on the back lanes to Kata Noi; the best bike here if you are two-up with a beach bag.

Rates for each are on the price table.

Sub-areas we deliver to

Kata Beach

The main Kata Yai bay and the hotels along the beach road and Patak Road. Our standard meeting point is the beach car park.

Kata Noi

The smaller southern bay reached over the hill. Hotels here are large and spread out; tell us the name and we will find the lobby.

Kata Centre

The shops, tailors and restaurants on the road inland from the beach. Hand-over outside your guesthouse; the street is narrow, so we park and walk the bike in.

Nearby areas

Karon is next door to the north, a flat five-minute ride. Rawai and Nai Harn are over the viewpoint hill to the south, and Chalong is inland on the road we use for delivery.

Parking and fuel

The beach car park at Kata Yai fills by late morning in high season; the side roads off Patak Road usually have space. Kata Noi has free roadside parking along the beach road. The nearest petrol station is on the road out towards Chalong, past Kata Centre; roadside bottle stalls in Kata Centre will get you there in an emergency.

Frequently asked questions

Do you deliver to Kata Noi as well as Kata Beach?

Yes. Kata Noi is the smaller bay over the hill to the south and is part of our Kata delivery area. Give us the hotel name and we come to the lobby.

Which scooter is best for the hill to Nai Harn?

The road past Karon Viewpoint climbs to about 190 m with hairpins. We recommend the PCX 160 or ADV 160 for two people; the Click 160 is fine solo.

Is there parking at Kata Beach?

There is a car park at the northern end of Kata Yai that fills by late morning in high season. The side roads off Patak Road usually have space, and Kata Noi has roadside parking.

How long is delivery to Kata?

About 40 minutes from our shop in Phuket Old Town, via Chalong and the Kata hill road.
